How to Move From Where You Are to Where You Want to Be in Business
Jan 23, 2025
Many entrepreneurs believe the path to success is simply about working harder, grinding longer hours, and pushing through with sheer willpower. But what if I told you that the fastest way to achieve your goals isn’t about doing more—it’s about becoming more?
In my latest YouTube video (watch it here), I share the mindset shifts that helped me move from uncertainty and struggle to running a thriving business. This transformation isn’t about luck—it’s about developing the right habits, beliefs, and identity that align with where you want to be. Let’s break it down.
The Key to Business Growth: Who You Become Along the Way
Where you are today in your business is a direct result of who you’ve been up until now—the habits you’ve formed, the skills you’ve developed, and the mindset you’ve carried. To reach your next level, you must shift into the version of yourself who is already there.
When I was starting my business, I had to ask myself: What skills do I need to develop daily to reach my goal? For me, those two critical skills were resilience and discipline—because without them, I would have quit before I even had a chance to succeed.
My Wake-Up Call: No Other Option But to Succeed
If you don’t know my story, here’s the short version: My visa expired in the UK, my English partner couldn’t enter Australia, and we had to figure out how to make money online while traveling. I had to make my business work—not just for my financial survival but for my relationship. Quitting was never an option.
Because of that urgency, I had to train myself to develop resilience. Every time I hit a roadblock, I had two choices: give up or keep going. I chose to keep going, and that decision shaped everything that followed.
The Power of Micro-Shifts: Discipline and Resilience in Action
If you feel stuck, overwhelmed, or like you’re constantly battling resistance, it’s time to focus on small, daily shifts that will rewire your mindset. Here’s how:
1. Resilience: The Habit of Getting Back Up
Most entrepreneurs quit too soon because they see failure as a stop sign instead of a lesson. But what if, instead of quitting, you asked yourself: “What can I learn from this?”
👉 Try this: When you face a setback, imagine yourself as a resilient person. Ask, How would someone with unshakable resilience respond to this challenge? Then, take that action.
🔁 Repeat this for 21 days—the minimum time it takes to create a new neural pathway in your brain.
2. Discipline: The Skill of Showing Up
Discipline isn’t about motivation—it’s about doing what needs to be done, whether you feel like it or not. One of the simplest ways to build discipline is to start with something small, like making your bed every morning.
🛏️ Why? Because when you consistently follow through on a small task, it strengthens the neural pathways for discipline in every area of your life—including business.
💡 Action Step: Pick one small daily habit that builds discipline (e.g., journaling for 5 minutes, setting a work start time, or sending one sales email a day) and commit to it for 21 days.
Resistance to Change? That’s Normal
Change feels uncomfortable because your brain loves familiarity. Staying in your current habits and patterns is easy, even if they aren’t getting you where you want to be.
But here’s the truth: Growth demands change.
📌 If you keep doing what you’ve always done, you’ll keep getting the same results. To create a different outcome, you need to shift into a new version of yourself.
